American Family Children’s Hospital (AFCH), a world-class Children’s Hospital a part of UW Health and the University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics, has a beautiful, state-of-the-art facility dedicated to children, built in 2007. Surgical Services is a full-service pediatric surgery program ripe for growth and ongoing transformation to be the finest of children’s surgical services. The surgical care team provides over 5,600 surgical procedures in 8 operating rooms, including two procedure rooms, a dedicated Hybrid Cath/Angio suite, and other surgical areas to support this 87-bed, Level 1 Trauma Center hospital.  There are 30 Pre/Post-Op and 10 PACU bays, staffed 24/7 by 80 FTEs.

Reporting to the Vice President, Clinical Operations, the Director of Surgical Services collaborates with the AFCH Surgeon-in-Chief and the AFCH Perioperative Services Medical Director, leading improvements in quality, safety, clinical outcomes, and patient/family satisfaction. The Director ensures effective communication, coordination and supportive structures, resulting in staff empowerment, growth and development. Accountable to ensure operational efficiency, the Director collaborates with staff, physicians and other departments to streamline systems.  The Director participates in both AFCH and University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinic’s Surgical Services committees and initiatives.

The ideal candidate will be a passionate, forward thinking leader, able to build relationships and collaborate across the health system, persuading and empowering others to ensure excellent pediatric surgical care is provided.  Candidates must be flexible, organized and calm in their approach to leading transitions. Candidates will have at least 5 years of perioperative and progressive leadership experience in pediatrics. A Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and a Master’s Degree are required, along with Wisconsin RN license current/eligible.
