OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital ranks among the nation’s Best Children’s Hospitals, according to US News & World Report, received ANCC Magnet Designation in 2013, is a member of the Children’s Oncology Group’s Phase 1 and Pilot Consortium, and is highly ranked in NIH awards. Nationally recognized physicians and nurses provide a full range of specialty and subspecialty care to tens of thousands of children annually, resulting in 200,000 discharges, surgeries, transports and outpatient visits annually in a patient- and family-centered environment.

Reporting to the Vice President of Women’s & Children’s Services, the Director of Ambulatory Pediatrics is a key member of the Executive Management Team for the Department of Pediatrics and Doernbecher Children’s Hospital. The Director is the strategic thought leader for pediatric ambulatory strategies, including development of initiatives to ensure space and staff are available for growth.

The Director of Ambulatory Pediatrics partners with clinical and strategic leaders to ensure oversight of outpatient services related to children’s healthcare. The ambulatory program encompasses multiple specialties in pediatrics, child development and surgical disciplines, which include more than 200 clinicians and staff.

The Director is responsible for planning and executing projects related to program operations using LEAN principles to ensure the achievement of strategic, operating, financial and customer services goals, such as: improving clinical operations, practice design and patient flow, resource use redesign, revenue cycle improvements,
improving human resource management and customer service.

The Director works closely with physician leaders and their administrative counterparts to ensure contract compliance with outreach and community partners, including provision of clinical services in off-site locations. The Director is responsible for leading, enhancing, directing, organizing, and monitoring DCH outpatient patient care related activities to ensure seamless patient management along the continuum, offering cost efficient and high quality services that are competitive in the marketplace.

Desired attributes include: excellent listening and communication skills; effective partnerships with physicians and other disciplines; high visibility and presence; mentoring and teambuilding; results oriented and highly accountable. Ideal candidates will have significant Ambulatory leadership experience, with a strong understanding of operations, flow and process improvement. Requirements include: five years’ progressive healthcare experience; demonstrated leadership strengths; high energy; strong knowledge base in ambulatory management, organizational development, managed care strategies, strategic planning, financial analysis and philanthropic activities. Must have a demonstrated ability to negotiate and persuade. Must be able to balance competing priorities and interests. A Master’s degree in Health Care Administration, Business, Public Health, Nursing or related field is required.
