Dr. Frank Bowen serves as Principal for the Physician Search and
Consultation Services of Bowen & Briggs. He has a broad
clinical and management background in both children’s
and perinatal centers. His faculty appointments included
Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia, PA; the
University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA; and The
Ohio State University, Columbus, OH. He served in
several administrative and clinical capacities that
included research, education and operations. While
Director of Neonatology at Pennsylvania Hospital in
Philadelphia, he published over 100 papers, chapters and
abstracts in the scientific and management literature.
He has presented widely at scientific meetings.
Prior to joining Bowen & Briggs, Inc., Dr. Bowen served as
Senior Vice President for Medical Affairs for a national disease management
company. In this capacity, he developed clinical management guidelines, risk
adjusted patient classification systems, objective discharge assignment criteria
and utilization management protocols. In addition, he developed computerized,
statistically valid systems for measuring practice patterns, clinical outcomes
and best practices. He has extensive experience presenting to insurance
companies, hospitals and physician practices.
He is currently the Executive Medical Director at Volunteers
in Medicine, Hilton Head, SC. The Clinic serves over 12,000 patients, with about
31,000 patient visits. He supervises over 100 physicians in 22 medical
specialties. The clinic serves as a major teaching site for the Medical College
of South Carolina. He serves as a consultant for medical practices locally, and
as a board member for the South Carolina Free Clinic Association.
Dr. Bowen holds a Master’s in Medical
Management from Tulane University, New Orleans, LA, and is active in several
professional organizations, including the American Pediatric Society, American
Academy of Pediatrics, National Perinatal Association,
American College of Physician Executives and the Perinatal
Foundation of America.
