Bowen & Briggs, Inc. is conducting the search for Nurse Manager, Pediatric Neurosurgery Intraoperative MRI Suite at Oakland Medical Center, Kaiser Permanente’s flagship hospital. The new, state-of-the-art hospital opened in July, 2014. The Oakland Medical Center is a cutting-edge specialty care center, employing board-certified physicians and surgeons. Members with especially complicated conditions are referred from Kaiser Permanente facilities across the region to receive care from one of a wide array of highly specialized care units, including: comprehensive pediatric care program, Pediatric neurosurgery, Neonatal intensive care, Cochlear implants, Genetics, and Spine surgery.

The Nurse Manager iMRI Suite is a key member of the Pediatric Neurosurgery team, which has special emphasis on brain tumors and vascular malformations, providing 2,000 consults and 249 OR cases per year. The program is known for outstanding results, strong commitment to safety, and its teamwork. The comprehensive Pediatric Neurosurgery team includes: 2 Surgeons, including Dr. Dachling Pang as Chief; Service Director; Nurse Manager iMRI Suite; 1 Neurosurgery Fellow; 2 Neuro-physiologists; 1 Neuro-pathologist; 1 Neuro-oncologist. 5 RN’s; 3 Techs; 3PA’s; 1 NP; office and clinic staff; and is supported by Pediatric Anesthesiologists and Intensivists.

The Manager is responsible for the operations and safe use of the iMRI Suite, working collaboratively with Radiology and Perioperative Nursing. Priorities include: continuing to build the culture of safety, ensuring excellence of processes, and contributing to growth of the program. The Manager is responsible for maintaining safety, controlling traffic in/out of iMRI OR, and ensuring adherence to standards and protocols. The Manager maintains checklists for DELTA case stages; safety training, and room equipment inventories; ensures equipment is maintained properly. Along with MRI techs, maintains records of iMRI trained and Zone 3, 4 approved staff and vendors; has specific intraoperative duties for cases; knows emergency procedures. The Manager coordinates pediatric neurosurgery clinical research.

Requirements for the position include: perioperative experience with iMRI and unwavering commitment to iMRI safety. The successful candidate will have strong clinical OR experience, including iMRI; must be excellent with communication and training, enforcing policy and procedures, committed to process improvements and meeting the needs of the service. It is important to be detail oriented and accurate, with good follow-through; collaborative and thorough, working well with Pediatric Neurosurgery, Perioperative Services and Radiology/MRI.
