MedStar Health is seeking a financial and business minded leader with exceptional analytical skills for the Corporate Director of Nursing Analytics position. This position reports directly to the Corporate Senior Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer, Maureen P. McCausland, DNSc, RN, FAAN – one of the top nursing executives in the country.  This is a key position on Dr. McCausland’s team, which includes the Chief Nursing Officers at each of the MedStar hospitals, members of the CNO Council and three other direct reports – the Corporate VP for Nursing Informatics and CNIO; the Corporate VP for Nursing Practice Innovation; and, the Corporate VP for Nursing Professional Development and Workforce Planning.

The former Director used Microsoft Access to develop a very comprehensive management reporting system for each of the MedStar hospitals that rolls up into one overall management report.  The organization is now implementing a new platform for this reporting, which will require the successful incumbent to know Microsoft Access, SQL Server, Hyperion Tableau and PeopleSoft in order to adequately assist in the transition to the new platform.       

The MedStar hospitals use Cerner as their clinical information system, Clairvia for staffing, scheduling and productivity, and Action OI for additional productivity monitoring. Each of the MedStar hospitals also uses NDNQI.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
  1. Sets standards and policies guiding system‐wide design, analysis and dissemination of nursing financial, human resource and performance metrics including the integrity of the data elements, data collection and analytics used.
  2. Directs and manages the NDNQI system level reporting and analysis.
  3. Maintains working knowledge of healthcare and nursing performance trends, analytic methodologies and other relevant tools.
  4. Works closely with leaders in Finance, HR, PI, IS, and Nursing at the corporate and entity levels.
  5. Is the system wide nursing sponsor for implementation and utilization of the Clarvia system.
  6. Designs and implements reports from various IS systems, such as Cerner and Clarvia to support improved performance in nursing across MedStar Health.

Key qualifications: A Master’s degree in business administration, finance or a related field and ten years of experience in quantitative methods and manipulating large data sets is required. A results oriented leader with a focus on outcomes is essential. Demonstrated expertise in using Microsoft Access, SQL Server, Hyperion Tableau and PeopleSoft; skilled in the use of Excel, and PowerPoint; demonstrated ability to work effectively within a large data driven organization with different systems at individual entities; a working knowledge of clinical information systems; strong verbal and written communication skills; and, the ability to complete multiple time sensitive projects and reports quickly and efficiently.
