Bowen and Briggs, Inc. is conducting the search for Director of Acute Care Services, Nemours Children’s Hospital. Located in Orlando, Florida, Nemours Children’s Hospital is the newest addition to the Nemours integrated health care system. Designed and built from the ground up, and opened in the Fall of 2012, the 100-bed pediatric hospital features the area’s only 24-hour Emergency Department designed just for kids, and all private rooms. A hospital designed by families for families, Nemours Children’s Hospital blends the healing power of nature with the latest in health care innovation to deliver world-class care to the children of Central Florida and beyond. Specialty outpatient care is provided in several clinics throughout the region. As one of the nation’s leading pediatric health care systems, Nemours offers integrated, family-centered care to more than 280,000 children each year in two pediatric hospitals, specialty clinics and primary care practices in Delaware, Florida, Maryland, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Nemours strives to ensure a healthier tomorrow for all children, through research, education and advocacy efforts.

The Director of Acute Care Services is responsible for leadership of the Medical-Surgical Units and Hematology-Oncology Service Line, including inpatient (8 rooms, 9 beds), outpatient and infusion services, located contiguously on one floor of the hospital. The Med-Surg Units are comprised of all private rooms, in pods of 8; 32 rooms, 36 beds (there are sibling rooms with 2 beds). The Director reports to the Senior Director of Nursing Acute Care and Perioperative Services, and will lead Acute Care Services by partnering with physician leaders, nursing leaders and other disciplines. There are Nurse Managers for Med-Surg and for HemOnc, and two Assistant Nurse Managers for Med-Surg; with approximately 100 FTEs and 42 total beds.

Current goals include: splitting the medical-surgical patient populations and staff – currently, care is provided to both populations on two floors; standardizing care practices for a skilled group of staff that have come from a variety of experiences; developing consistent education and orientation programs for the unit and new staff; focus on patient safety and quality; and coaching the unit leaders in their growth and development. Future plans include starting a solid organ transplant program, as well as additional growth.

Desired characteristics include: ability to manage and lead change; strong skill in mentoring and empowering staff and managers; and energy and passion for ensuring high-quality, family-centered patient care.

Qualifications: at least 5 years of pediatric acute care nursing experience, as well as several years of management and leadership experience. Solid organ transplant experience is a plus. A Master’s degree in nursing or related field is required (candidates enrolled in a program may be considered), along with BSN and current/eligible Florida RN license.
