Bowen and Briggs, Inc. is conducting the search for Director of Critical Care Services, Nemours Children’s Hospital. Located in Orlando, Florida, Nemours Children’s Hospital is the newest addition to the Nemours integrated health care system. Designed and built from the ground up, and opened in the Fall of 2012, the 100-bed pediatric hospital features the area’s only 24-hour Emergency Department designed just for kids, and all private rooms. A hospital designed by families for families, Nemours Children’s Hospital blends the healing power of nature with the latest in health care innovation to deliver world-class care to the children of Central Florida and beyond. Specialty outpatient care is provided in several clinics throughout the region. As one of the nation’s leading pediatric health care systems, Nemours offers integrated, family-centered care to more than 280,000 children each year in two pediatric hospitals, specialty clinics and primary care practices in Delaware, Florida, Maryland, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Nemours strives to ensure a healthier tomorrow for all children, through research, education and advocacy efforts.

The Director of Critical Care Services is responsible for leadership of the Pediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care Units. The units are comprised of all private rooms, in pods of 8. The PICU has 18 beds (includes 2 rooms with sibling beds) and the Level IIIc NICU has 14 beds, all on the same floor. The Director reports to the Senior Director of Nursing Critical Care Services, and will lead these two Units by partnering with physician leaders, nursing leaders and other disciplines. The Director is supported by two Assistant Nurse Managers and one Educator, and is accountable for a staff of 45 FTE direct reports.

Current goals include: standardizing care practices for a skilled group of staff that have come from a variety of experiences; developing consistent education and orientation programs for the unit and new staff; focus on patient safety and quality; and coaching the unit leaders in their growth and development. Future plans include starting a cardio-thoracic surgery program and solid organ transplant program.

Desired characteristics include: ability to manage and lead change; strong skills in mentoring and empowering staff and managers while assisting clinically as needed; and energy and passion for ensuring high-quality, family-centered patient care.

Qualifications: 3-5 years of pediatric and/or neonatal critical care nursing experience, and several years of leadership experience. Cardiac experience is a plus. A Master’s degree in nursing or related field is required (candidates enrolled in a program may be considered), along with BSN and current/eligible Florida RN license.
