Bowen & Briggs, Inc. is conducting the search for Patient Care Director, Labor & Delivery at Sloane Hospital for Women, widely recognized as one of the finest obstetrical and gynecological programs in the world, with more than 4,000 annual deliveries. Part of New York’s #1-ranked hospital NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/ Columbia University Medical Center, Sloane Hospital for Women provides comprehensive care for both mother and baby, from routine screening tests to the most advanced diagnosis and management of high-risk births. If needed, pediatric subspecialists of the Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital are readily available for consultation and treatment. The Hospital also manages pre-existing and newly detected medical complications in mothers, such as hypertension, congenital heart disease, and diabetes.

With tenth-floor views overlooking the Hudson River, the newly renovated Labor and Delivery Unit includes 10 Labor rooms; 6 Triage beds; 6 High Risk beds; 3 Operating Rooms; and 4-bed PACU. Acuity of care is very high, including higher rate of scheduled C-sections; large number of transports. LOS is 3.69 days; 70% occupancy rate. Reporting to the Director of Maternal-Child Health, the Patient Care Director will manage all aspects of care delivery in a fast-paced, challenging, exciting environment, where rare and complex care is provided. There is an Assistant Nurse Manager for L&D and 64 RN FTEs and approximately 100 staff reporting directly. The Patient Care Director serves as a strong partner with maternal fetal specialists, working closely to provide safe and seamless multidisciplinary care to the obstetric patient and family unit using a team approach. Areas of focus include: fostering nurse autonomy, compassion and critical thinking; emphasizing patient satisfaction, while bolstering staff morale through participative leadership; and serving on hospital-wide and system-wide MCH committees that shape the future of the institution.

The ideal candidate for this key leadership position will be: a change agent, with a transformational, participatory leadership style, engaging staff and stakeholders. Will have ability and interest in mentoring and coaching staff and emerging leaders of the unit, while moving towards Magnet designation for one of the largest hospitals in the country. We are seeking an innovative, creative leader that will look at things in new and different ways, within a culture of shared clinical decision-making, to support pace-setting technology and strive for record-high patient and employee satisfaction.

Requirements for the position include: extensive clinical knowledge in Obstetrics; experience running a medium-to-large OB service with moderate-to-high acuity; high risk experience is preferred. Demonstrated success in teambuilding and improvement of the patient/family experience will be key. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential to success. Experience with Team STEPPS principles and Lean concepts are ideal. A Master’s degree in Nursing or a related field (or eligibility to obtain within 12 months) is required, along with current/eligible NY RN license; Electronic Fetal Monitoring certification is required; OB certified is preferred.
